Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi was set up in the year 1914 with an aim to provide an opportunity to the Indian women to study medicine. The college was named after the then-wife of Viceroy of India lady Hardinge who took the initiative of starting a separate Medical College for women of India. Lady Hardinge laid the foundation stone of the college on 17th March in the year 1914.

The 1916-founded Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi has been a part of the University of Delhi since 1950. Only 14–16 medical students per year from around the nation were initially enrolled by the college. The number of MBBS seats was increased to 200 per year in 2011. Smt. Sucheta Kriplani Hospital and Kalawati Saran Child Hospital are the two hospitals that the institute has access to for the teaching and training of its students. Both the Kalawati Saran Child Hospital and Smt. Kriplani Hospital have 350 and 877 beds, respectively. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test serves as the basis for Undergraduate MBBS admission (NEET).

Lady Hardinge Medical College's infrastructure is quite remarkable, with all of the current facilities. It contains a guesthouse and roomy lecture halls.
